A talk on “Butterfly: Ecology and Conservation” was organized on 28 February 2026 in connection with academic and environmental awareness activities of the department. The programme was attended by faculty members, students and invited guests. The resource person for the session was Dr. Manashi Bortamuly. In her insightful lecture, she discussed the ecological importance of butterflies, their role as pollinators and bioindicators and their significance in maintaining ecosystem balance.

Dr. Bortamuly highlighted the diversity of butterfly species found in Assam and emphasized the importance of habitat conservation, sustainable environmental practices, and public awareness for the protection of butterfly populations. She also explained the various threats faced by butterflies, including habitat destruction, climate change and excessive use of pesticides. The session was highly informative and interactive. Students actively participated in the discussion and gained valuable knowledge regarding butterfly ecology, biodiversity conservation and environmental sustainability.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks given by Dr. Manashi Changmai, expressing gratitude to the resource person for delivering an enriching and inspiring talk.
