Jagannath Barooah University observed National Sports Day 2025 on 30th August 2025 with great enthusiasm and spirit. The day was marked by an Inter-Department Extempore Speech Competition, jointly organised by the Office of the DSA, Jagannath Barooah University, in collaboration with the Office of the District Sports Officer, Jorhat.
The programme began with the lighting of the inaugural lamp by Dr. Utpal Jyoti Mahanta, Registrar of the University, accompanied by Mr. Subhasish Sarmah, Dean of Students’ Affairs (DSA), and Mr. Rahul Sharma, District Sports Officer, Jorhat.
In their brief speeches, the dignitaries highlighted the legacy of Major Dhyan Chand, whose birth anniversary is observed as National Sports Day, and underlined the importance of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, and leadership among youth.
The event was also graced by the presence of Dr. Swapna Bora (Department of Sanskrit, Jagannath Barooah University), Mr. Pulakesh Boruah (District Sports Office, Jorhat), and Mr. Priyanuj Duarah (District Sports Office, Jorhat), whose support and encouragement added significance to the celebration.
The extempore speech competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from 30 students representing different departments. The event was jointly anchored by Capt. Sandeep Sankar Regan and Mr. Debajyoti Dutta (District Sports Office). The vote of thanks was delivered by Mr. Sarat Konwar, who expressed gratitude to all participants, judges, and organisers.
The competition was judged by Capt. Regan and Mr. Konwar, and the winners were declared as follows:

The celebration not only honoured the sporting spirit of the nation but also provided students with a platform to enhance their confidence, presence of mind, and public speaking skills.
