The Department of Chemistry, Jagannath Barooah University, successfully organized CHEMTALK 1.0 on 15th September 2025 in the New Seminar Hall of the university. The invited resource person for the event was Dr. Parikshit Gogoi, Assistant Professor, Nagaon University, who delivered an insightful talk on “Emerging Trends in Chemistry Research: Scope and Opportunities.”

The programme commenced with a warm welcoming speech by Dr. Jayashree Nath, followed by Dr. Gitashree Darabdhara, who highlighted the academic journey and professional achievements of Dr. Gogoi. Dr. Utpal Jyoti Mahanta, Registrar, Jagannath Barooah University, also addressed the gathering and motivated the students to face upcoming academic and life challenges with determination and preparedness. Faculty members and students attended the event with great enthusiasm and eagerness to learn from the distinguished speaker.

During his talk, Dr. Gogoi primarily emphasized on the wide range of research opportunities and fellowships available to students at various levels including undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral studies. He elaborated on prestigious fellowships such as the Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Fellowship, Marie Curie Fellowship, DAAD Fellowship, and several others that can significantly support academic growth and research careers.

Dr. Gogoi also shared insights into his own academic and research background. He holds an M.Sc. in Chemistry from Cotton University, M.Tech in Petroleum Refining and Petrochemicals from Dibrugarh University, and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from CSIR-NEIST, Jorhat. Prior to joining Nagaon University, he worked as a technical staff member in the Department of Chemistry at IIT Guwahati. He has received numerous accolades including the INSA Summer Research Fellowship (Bengaluru), Raman Fellowship for Post-Doctoral Research at the Georgia Institute of Technology, Atlanta, and the 2023 Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowship for research at the University of Illinois- Urbana-Champaign, where he made significant contributions to biomass research.

His lecture covered diverse research domains such as biomass-based chemicals, fuels and materials, and natural products chemistry, encouraging the students to explore emerging scientific frontiers.

The event concluded with an appreciative vote of thanks and final remarks by Mrs. Akhtara Hussain Kalita, Head of the Department of Chemistry. With this, CHEMTALK 1.0 ended on an inspiring note, motivating young minds to pursue innovation and excellence in the field of Chemistry.
