The Three month Certificate Course in Classical and Creative Dance (2024–2025) concluded on 31st October,2025 with a Certificate Distribution Ceremony held at Conference Hall-II of Jagannath Barooah University (JBU), Jorhat. The course was jointly organized by the Film Society and the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of the erstwhile J.B. College, now upgraded to Jagannath Barooah University.
The event was anchored by Dr. Deepanjali Baruah, Joint Secretary of the Film Society. The programme commenced with floral tributes to the late Zubeen Garg, offered by invited guests, faculty members, and students. This was followed by a heartfelt rendition of the iconic song Mayabini by students of the Department of English, setting a reflective and artistic tone for the occasion.
Ms. Priyam Baruah, Chief Instructor of the Dance Course, was felicitated by the Film Society for her invaluable contribution to the programme. In her address, Ms. Baruah highlighted the significance of performing arts as both a creative medium for spiritual fulfilment and a means of shaping individual and collective identity.
The certificate distribution was conducted by Mr. Sadiqur Rahman, Joint Coordinator of the Film Society, and Mr. Akash Dipta Thakur, popular writer and member of the Society. The Film Society also felicitated Ms. Priyanka Bharali and Dr. Indrani Hazarika for their consistent support throughout the course.
A captivating dance performance by the course participants followed, choreographed by Ms. Priyam Baruah and based on songs by Zubeen Garg. The performance showcased the skills, discipline, and creative expression nurtured during the three-month training period.
In the prize distribution ceremony, Ms. Riya Saikia, Ms. Neha Hazarika, and Ms. Akangkhya Kalita were awarded as the best performers of the 2024–2025 batch (3rd batch). The awards were presented by Dr. Kalyan Das, Coordinator, IQAC, JBU.
Dr. Surajit Sharma, Dean of Academic Affairs, and Dr. Minakshi Phukon Hazarika addressed the gathering, commending the participants for their enthusiasm and dedication. They also emphasized the importance of soft skills and performing arts in the context of NEP 2020, and suggested integrating the dance course into the regular academic curriculum in future.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Mr. Akash Dipta Thakur, expressing gratitude to all contributors, participants, and guests for making the programme a memorable success.
