The Department of English, Jagannath Barooah University, Jorhat, organized an insightful and interactive talk on “Foundation of Pre-print Skills: Editing and Proofreading” under the Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) on Saturday, 25th October 2025.

The programme was initiated by Dr. Nandini Choudhury Bora, Associate Professor and Head of the Department of English, who extended a warm welcome to the resource person and students. In her opening remarks, Dr. Bora emphasized the importance of integrating practical skill development with academic learning to prepare students for evolving professional demands.

Following this, Assistant Professor Lalsenlevis Nampui introduced the esteemed resource person, Dr. Rofique Ahmed — writer, former Vice Principal and Head of the Department of Economics at Bahona College, Managing Director of NEIRCP, Advisory Member of Dibrugarh University’s Publication Cell, and Joint Editor of Northeast Margin. Dr. Ahmed was felicitated with a phulam gamusa and a token of appreciation by Dr. Pranami Bania, Associate Professor, Department of English.

In his address, Dr. Ahmed spoke passionately about the growing relevance of skill-based education within the framework of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He highlighted how the Skill Enhancement Course (SEC) encourages students to explore new disciplines, gain hands-on experience, and build confidence for their future careers. Stressing the need for creativity, adaptability, and linguistic precision, he elaborated on the nuances of editing, proofreading, and copy editing, explaining how these processes refine written communication while preserving meaning and clarity.

Dr. Ahmed also provided an engaging overview of the history of Mass Communication, illustrating how editing has remained a crucial pillar of effective media and publishing practices. The session maintained an interactive tone, with students actively participating, asking insightful questions, and sharing their perspectives — making the event both educational and lively.

The session concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Priyanka Bharali, Assistant Professor, Department of English, who expressed gratitude to Dr. Ahmed for his enriching presentation. The programme ended on a cheerful note with a group photograph, marking the close of a truly inspiring and skill-oriented academic event.
