Established in 1944, the Department is one of the oldest institution providing quality business education to students from across the state.
Presently, the department has ten full-time faculty members, comprised of both experienced as well as young and energetic faculty members who are qualified in a diverse field of business education from various universities across the country.

Responsibilities:
A) Responsibilities of the Institution towards the students:
To realize our Vision and Mission, the institution takes pride in shouldering the following responsibilities:
1) Maintain quality in the teaching and learning process with a need-based curriculum
2) Making learning resources and infrastructure available and accessible.
3) Creating an effective teaching-learning programme as per the academic plan.
4) Making all possible efforts for redressal of learners’ grievances.
5) Fostering remedial measures according to their strengths and weakness.
6) Facilitating mechanism to support learners.
7) Striving for transparency in all aspects of the system.
8) Creating scope for widening physical, mental and spiritual faculties of the learners.
9) Imbibing high values, social responsibilities and good citizenry.
B) Responsibilities of the students in the process of learning:
1) Must extent full co-operation, appreciate the institution’s vision and mission and offer opinions and suggestions.
2) Must abide by the annual academic plan and attend programmes accordingly.
3) Must desire to utilize institutional resources to the optimum level.
4) Must desire to know various structures of the institution system.
5) Must provide feedback regarding the curriculum/ resources/ system.
6) Must focus on maintaining a congenial atmosphere within the campus.
7) Must be in college uniform and maintain decency in all aspects.
History of the Department:
This history of the department is as old as 1944 when the need for an academic institution providing business education was felt. The inception of the Department took place under the visionary leader, Prof. K.K. Handique.
