Department of Zoology
- Date of establishment: 01-10-1953 as the Department of Biology.
- Year of the opening of Department of Zoology: 1961.
- Founder HoD, Biology: Prof. Jashodananda Bharali (1953-1957).

The Department of Zoology is one of the oldest and leading departments of Jagannath Barooah College (Autonomous). It was established as a Department of Biology in 1953. At present, three Associate Professors and four Assistant Professors with three supporting staff are working in the department. Since its inception, the department has able to show remarkable performance in maintaining the tradition of academic excellence. Faculty members of the department have received research grants from various governmental sources like UGC, DBT, DST.
The Department of Mathematics of Jagannath Barooah College (Autonomous), Jorhat was established in the year 1930. The Department has a group of highly active and vibrant faculty members committed to deliver high quality research standards in pure and applied areas of mathematics and also trains students to become competent and motivated mathematicians. The research interests of the faculty members cover broad range of mathematics: Fuzzy Systems, Decision support system, Optimization, Cryptography and Network security, Functional analysis, Topology, Abstract algebra, Sequence space, Magneto-hydrodynamics. The department currently offers Mathematics UG and PG courses under CBCS. The total seat capacity of Mathematics (Honors) course is 50 and Mathematics (PG) course is 25.

The Department of Mathematics, Jagannath Barooah college (Autonomous) has always strived to become a leading Mathematics Department in the country and has worked towards becoming a centre for higher studies and advanced research in various areas of mathematics so that it can contribute to the development of the nation.
MISSION
The Department of Mathematics, Jagannath Barooah College (Autonomous) is a diversified community of scholars dedicated to excellence in teaching, scholarship, research, and service in the disciplines of pure and applied mathematics. The department is dedicated to scholarship and research in the mathematical sciences, and to active participation in the professional life of its disciplines through publications and professional meetings.
Apart from regular UG and PG courses the department regularly sponsors special lectures and activities to enrich the academic life of the campus and the larger community. Department members share in the role of faculty governance through committee participation at all levels within the College.
The goal of these programs of study is to equip all of our students with the conceptual understanding, computational skills, and persistent disposition required to use quantitative reasoning and analysis effectively in their personal and professional lives. For mathematics majors and graduate students, we aim to provide stimulating mathematical experiences that will bolster their future careers, whether that be the application of mathematics in practical contexts or contributions to the mathematical profession through teaching, productive scholarship and active participation in professional organizations.
