A Career Counselling Talk on the Agniveer Scheme and other Defence Services was successfully organised at Jagannath Barooah University (JBU), Jorhat, on 13 March 2026. The programme aimed to create awareness among students and NCC cadets about career opportunities in the armed forces and to provide guidance regarding the recruitment process under the Agnipath Scheme.
The programme was conceptualised and initiated by faculty member Abhilash Borthakur of the Department of NCC, JBU. His initiative brought together the Army Recruiting Office Jorhat (ARO Jorhat), 64 Assam Battalion NCC, and 9 Assam Battalion NCC, which jointly organised the event.
The programme commenced with an introductory briefing by Ajit Bharali, Honorary Captain of 64 Assam BN NCC, who highlighted the objectives of the counselling session and emphasised the importance of defence services as a promising career path for the youth. He also encouraged NCC cadets and students to explore opportunities in the armed forces with dedication and discipline.
The keynote address was delivered by Sandeep Gunjal, Subedar Major of ARO Jorhat. In his detailed presentation, he explained the Agniveer recruitment scheme, its eligibility criteria, selection procedures, training structure, and future career prospects. He also interacted with the students and clarified their queries regarding recruitment in the Indian Army.
The event was held in the presence of Mohan Thapa, Honorary Lieutenant of 9 Assam BN NCC; Bonoshree Saikia, Associate NCC Officer of 64 Assam BN NCC; and Pallobee Duarah, Head of the Department of NCC, JBU. Faculty member Juri Borah was also present on the occasion.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from approximately 170–200 NCC cadets and students of the university. The interactive session helped participants gain a clearer understanding of career opportunities in defence services and the pathways available through the Agniveer scheme.
The Career Counselling Talk proved to be a highly informative and motivating session for the students, encouraging them to consider serving the nation through a career in the armed forces.
