অসমীয়া বিভাগ
১৯৩০ চনত উত্তৰ-পূৱ ভাৰতৰ প্ৰথমখন বেচৰকাৰী মহাবিদ্যালয়ৰূপে প্ৰতিষ্ঠিত জগন্নাথ বৰুৱা মহাবিদ্যালয়ৰ সূচনা কালৰ অন্যতম বিভাগ আছিল 'অসমীয়া বিভাগ'। সময়ৰ লেখেৰে ৯১ বছৰীয়া এই বিভাগটোৱে প্ৰজ্ঞা আৰু সাধনাৰে গৌৰৱধ্বজা উৰুৱাই ৰাখিবলৈ সক্ষম হৈছে।প্ৰতিষ্ঠা কালৰেপৰা সহস্ৰ বিদ্যাৰ্থীয়ে এই বিভাগত অধ্যয়ন কৰি কৰ্মসূত্ৰে আৰু সাহিত্য-সাধনাৰে ৰাজ্যিক আৰু ৰাষ্ট্ৰীয় প্ৰেক্ষাপটত উজলি উঠিবলৈ সক্ষম হৈছে। ইতিমধ্যে এই বিভাগত ছাত্র আৰু শিক্ষকৰূপে জড়িত পাঁচোগৰাকীকৈ মহীয়ানে অসম সাহিত্য সভাৰ সভাপতি আসন শুৱনি কৰিছে। কেবাগৰাকী বৰেণ্য অসম সাহিত্য সভাৰ 'সাহিত্যাচাৰ্য' উপাধিৰে সন্মানিত হৈছে আৰু সাহিত্য অকাদেমি বঁটা লাভ কৰিছে। এই মহীয়ানসকলৰ পদানুসৰণ কৰি বৰ্তমানৰ শিক্ষকসকলৰ মাজৰ পৰাও অসম সাহিত্য সভা পত্ৰিকা সম্পাদনা কৰাৰ লগতে 'সাহিত্য অকাদেমিৰ শিশুসাহিত্য বঁটা' লাভ কৰি বিভাগৰ ঐতিহ্য ধৰি ৰাখিবলৈ সক্ষম হৈছে।
বিভাগটোৱে বৰ্তমান উচ্চতৰ মাধ্যমিক শ্ৰেণীৰ পৰা স্নাতকোত্তৰ শ্ৰেণীলৈকে পাঠদান কৰাৰ লগতে চলিত বছৰৰপৰা এম, ফিল পাঠ্যক্ৰম প্ৰৱৰ্তনৰ বাবে প্ৰস্তুতি চলাইছে। অনাগত দিনবোৰতো অসমীয়া বিভাগ ঐতিহ্য আৰু পৰম্পৰাৰ সেন্দূৰীয়া বাটেৰে ৰূপান্তৰৰ মাজেদি আগবাঢ়ি যাবলৈ প্ৰতিশ্ৰুতিবদ্ধ।
Assamese Department
The department of Assamese is one of the major department of Jagannath Borooah College (Autonomous) which offers courses in both U.G. and P.G. The department was established in 10th October, 1930 and introduced P.G. course in Assamese in 2016 with the aim of providing knowledge of Assamese language, literature, culture, its trend and tendency, present status, literary theory, criticism etc. Along with these some practical knowledge of translation studies, lexicography, editing, proof reading, creative writing etc. are trying to provide so that students can in future find a way towards the professional world.. The Department has designed its own syllabi for those courses. The department has been striving for literary & cultural preservation through seminar, workshop, popular talks and various activities ever since its inception. Moreover, the faculty provides an analytical platform for extensive research and critical acclamation on literary, cultural and linguistic studies . The department also introduced PhD programme in 2022 and at present there are four numbers of PhD supervisors from the department.
The Department is a hub of literary activities and boasts of three Sahityacharyyas who were also the presidents of Asom Sahitya Sabha the apex literary body of Assam. Teachers of the Department received various awards including Sahitya Akademy and another Soviet Desh Nehru Award. The alumni also made their mark in Assams literary world.
Recognition of present Teachers : Faculty members received various award in recognition of their Literary Activities. Dr Manik Saikia was awarded “Giridhar Sarmah Memorial Award” for the Novel “Pitamahar Sarosaryya” in the year 1993-94 organised by Asom Sahitya Sabha.Dr. Jyotirekha Hazarika adjudged as National Poet & Jury Member from 2008-2015 by Sahitya Akademi.
