Quiz competition:

An intra-department quiz and Essay writing competition took place in the Department of Geology at Jagannath Barooah University on the eve of International Women’s Day, on 9 March 2026 organized by Geological Forum, JBU. The event aimed to encourage academic engagement, improve general knowledge in geology, and promote active participation among the department's students.

The program began with a welcome address by Abhinab Borah, the General Secretary of the Geological Forum. He welcomed the professors and students attending the event. Dr. Raktim Ranjan Saikia, President of the Geological Forum, delivered an inspiring speech. He encouraged students to take part in academic and co-curricular activities and highlighted the importance of women in geology.

As a gesture of appreciation, the Quiz Master, Abhiraj Dutta, an alumnus of the department, was felicitated by Sneha Deori, a student of the 4th semester. Before the start of the Quiz competition, he briefly explained the rules and structure of the competition.

The quiz competition commenced with a preliminary round, in which eighteen (18) teams participated. Six teams were selected to proceed to the main rounds. The final stage of the competition consisted of four exciting rounds, where the teams competed enthusiastically and demonstrated their knowledge and quick thinking. The first round was based on general knowledge, the second focused on women’s day, and the fourth round based on the questions related to Zubeen Garg, the Humming King of Assam.

After the completion of all rounds, the results were declared. The first position was secured by Shreya Sarma and Anuska Bhuyan of 2^nd Semester. The second position was secured by Bishwanarayan Boruah, Bishnu Kamal Kalita, and Anurag Dutta of 4^th Semester. The third position was secured by Shatarupa Goswami, Uddipona Dutta, and Dimpol Borah of 4^th Semester.

The event concluded with appreciation for all the participants and organizers for making the competition a success. The quiz competition proved to be an engaging and educational experience for the students and successfully promoted a spirit of learning and healthy competition within the department. The vote of thanks was given by Bishwajit Dutta, the Vice President of the Geological Forum.
